We have limited space and resources and want to accept people who will make best use of them. How you define a venture is up to you, whether it's a software company, nonprofit, art project, or something we haven't thought of yet.
Your venture must have growth potential
We want to help startups grow and scale, so plan on advancing your project beyond it's current state.
You must be a student at the University of Maryland
At the time of your application, all undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply regardless of major or college.
Come to Events
Shell Talks or Grind Nights are great ways to get to know current members and the values of Startup Shell. The more the better. Check out our event page,
or just come work in our space! Our open house is a great opportunity to get to know us
Membership grants you 24/7 swipe access to our co-working space and access to our resources. Swipe remains active for one semester after leaving the university. Should you not be accepted for membership, we still invite you to join us at our public events and reapply in the future.
If you apply as a group or startup team, your team will only be admitted in full so as to not fragment team leadership. All founders must complete an application and only co-founders (or key decision makers) are eligible for membership. However, team members, employees, and interns are more than welcome to work out of the space when it is open or if another Shell member is present.
Our resources help startups grow. This list is constantly growing and we'd love to hear what we can add to help you further.
